October, 2004 CONTENTS
INTRODUCTION
The need to establish a center to train people basic technical
scales that are useful to the society and be a source of livelihood has
been identified by the client. It is on this basis that the center is to be established in Uthiru near
Kinoo shopping center to serve the less advantaged members of the
community and train them in skills that are of value to the
public. The skills learnt in the
center such as carpentry and other woodwork, metal fabrications and auto
mechanics is in big demand and the graduants will be able to provide the
services and earn a living from the same technology.
THE SITE The site is accessed by way of a motorable road branching off from the
road linking the highway to Nakuru at Kinoo and Dagoretti shopping center.
It measures 35m x 40m and is part of a plot used by the Focolare
fraternity as a home and youth retreat center. The climate is typical equatorial, all year round consistent
temperatures, two rainy seasons with little changes in humidity. The vegetation is manmade and soils are red and ideal for horticultural
and other subsistence farming. The neighborhood has some residential developments as private homes and
others rental. Most
developments currently do not extend beyond four levels. The ground has a gentle slope towards the south but this is not
significant since the fraternity at the site have started leveling the
ground in preparation for construction. The services available to the site include electricity, water and
